R School understands that young children learn through play and through stimulating, hands-on activities, games, and other academic enrichment.  Our Lower Elementary program is designed to meet the specific needs of young children, ages 4-8, by combining creativity, social interaction, and exploration with developmentally appropriate academic instruction.

Students enrolled in our full-time Lower Elementary program will receive a minimum of 420 hours (MWF 9am-3pm) of core English / Language Arts (ELA), Social Studies (SS), Science, and Math (STEM),  plus a minimum of 300 hours (T/Th 9am-3pm) of various electives, enrichment, small-group, or 1:1 tutoring throughout the year. Electives and enrichment may include art, music, physical education, gardening, cooking, crafts, engineering, technology, and more, for a total of 720 instructional hours.

Recess and free-play are vital to healthy childhood development. Rather than focusing on "standardized academics," R School Lower Elementary students engage in a variety of free-play activities and enjoy a minimum of one hour of recess each day.

Enrolling in our full-time program provides the most complete educational environment, but full-time enrollment may not fit the needs of all students. Therefore, students may also choose from a variety of part-time options, including academics only, electives only, or a-la-carte enrollment when space is available.

Upper Elementary

R School believes that children grow both academically and socially through inquiry-driven, project-based collaborations and useful problem-solving skill development. Our Upper Elementary program is designed to foster the natural curiosity of young children, ages 8-11, while developing the independent-functioning and academic skills necessary for more complex activities.

Students enrolled in our full-time Upper Elementary program will receive 540 hours (MWF 9am-3pm) of core English / Language Arts (ELA), Social Studies (SS), Science, and Math (STEM),  plus a minimum of 360 hours (T/Th 9am-3pm) of various electives throughout the year, including art, music, physical education, gardening, cooking, crafts, engineering, technology, and more, for a total of 900 hours.

Students may also choose from a variety of part-time options, including academics only, electives only, or a-la-carte enrollments when space is available.

Middle School

Middle School is a time for exploring passions, finding out what makes each of us unique, and learning how we can impact the world around us.  R School sees individual curiosities, abilities, and learning styles as important factors in designing, differentiating, and assessing learning. Students in our Middle School program are encouraged to follow their interests, pursue problems and knowledge that build on their current understanding of the world, and defend their conclusions by explaining their thinking in a variety of ways.

Students enrolled in our full-time Middle School program will receive a minimum of 540 hours of unique, topics-style courses in English / Language Arts (ELA), Social Studies (SS), and Science, Math, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) plus a minimum 360 hours of various electives throughout the year, including art, music, physical education, gardening, cooking, crafts, engineering, technology, and more, for a minimum of 900 instructional hours.

Students may also choose from a variety of part-time options, including academics only, electives only, or a-la-carte enrollments when space is available.

In response to the unique needs of athletes, musicians, artists, and other specialists, R School offers R Star Education, which was created to bring exceptional academics to students in an adaptive, personalized format. Families may also choose to create and facilitate their own curriculum and utilize the R School Umbrella Enrollment option to meet the state of Florida compulsory attendance requirement.

The R School flexible framework allows students with complex training or practice schedules to remain enrolled in school full-time and still pursue their non-academic passions without compromising their education or their extra-curricular activities.

Teachers, students, coaches, mentors, community members, and parents work collaboratively to create the ideal academic and non-curricular program for each student. R Star Education allows students to achieve their full potential in an environment structured around their special interests, and when education is designed to best meet the needs of the students, students are effectively engaged and learn most effectively.
