Claire Strom was born in Boston, but raised in the United Kingdom, where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Oxford University. Moving to the United States, she worked for the Minnesota Historical Society for a while, before relocating to Iowa to take her PhD in Agricultural History and Rural Studies at Iowa State University.
